Inside the meticulously crafted cabin of the RL, concepts like comfort and hospitality are given the usual Acura treatments of precision and insight. Front seats not only pamper you with soft, perforated leather and supportive bolsters, they also offer three different levels of heating. An available GPS-linked solar sensor can also detect if direct sunlight is warming the cabin and will automatically adjust the climate control to compensate. In addition to adjusting the driver’s seat up to 10 different ways,1 the vehicle’s remote linked memory system also sets the steering column, outside mirrors, climate control and audio settings to two drivers’ distinct preferences. Long before your first experience behind the wheel of the RL, Acura engineers had you keenly in mind. In considering the vehicle’s cabin, what’s most important is not the level of complexity, but the ability of the technology to make itself useful and usable. With the intuitive design and placement of vital controls, the multiple methods of interaction, including steering wheel-mounted controls, and the quick read of various systems afforded by the Multi-Information Display, the RL’s technologies and ergonomics have been crafted to heighten control, increase awareness and deepen your overall driving experience.

Inhale. Exhale. This is the rhythm of performance. Of course, as demands on the engine change, so must the rhythm. Acura engineers took this insight to heart in designing the RL’s powerplant. The resulting 3.7-liter VTEC?V-6 engine uses two different camshaft profiles. By fine-tuning the lift and opening duration of the intake and exhaust valves, the competing needs of low-end torque and high-end horsepower are satisfied, giving you an exhilarating rush off the line, and far down the road.

The engine’s high-inertia intake manifold also helps ensure that airflow is optimized throughout the power curve. At low rpm, the air entering the manifold is propelled into the combustion chamber by a precisely tuned sonic wave. At higher engine speeds, the effect is cancelled, allowing the air’s own inertia to pack in the maximum amount. The vehicle’s dual exhaust system ensures unrestricted flow out of the engine, also a vital ingredient for performance.
